Agansing Rai VC (1920–2000) was a legendary Gurkha soldier from the 5th Royal Gurkha Rifles. During the intense fighting of the Burma Campaign in June 1944, particularly during the Battle of Bishenpur, he demonstrated unimaginable courage by clearing heavily fortified enemy machine-gun positions under withering fire. His heroic efforts earned him the Victoria Cross.
