The Britain–India–Nepal Tripartite Agreement of 1947 was signed on the eve of Indian independence. It negotiated the future of the Gurkha regiments, splitting them between the British Army and the newly independent Indian Army. It fundamentally ensured that the Gorkha soldiers would serve with the same dignity, pay, and pensions as their peers in their respective militaries.
